## Create a key [#create-key]

As of October 2026: open **console.groq.com → API Keys → Create API Key** and copy it. Upgrade to the developer tier for production limits.

## Settings [#settings]

* Preset: **Groq** (base URL `https://api.groq.com/openai/v1`).
* Model: a Groq model id with tool use.

## Data location [#data-location]

> **Data location:** This service may route requests to other providers in other countries. Check its data-processing terms.

## Troubleshooting [#troubleshooting]

* **`rate_limited`:** the free tier's limits are low; upgrade or add a [fallback](/docs/ai/byok#fallback).
* **`tools_unsupported`:** not every model on Groq supports tool calling.
