## Create a key [#create-key]

As of October 2026: open **openrouter.ai → Keys → Create key**, set a credit limit and copy the key. Add credit under **Credits**.

## Settings [#settings]

* Preset: **OpenRouter** (base URL `https://openrouter.ai/api/v1`).
* Model: an OpenRouter model id such as `provider/model-name`. Choose a model that supports tools (OpenRouter's model list shows "Tools").

## Data location [#data-location]

> **Data location:** This service may route requests to other providers in other countries. Check its data-processing terms.

In your OpenRouter privacy settings, exclude providers that may train on prompts and, if you need EU processing, restrict routing to providers whose terms you accept.

## Troubleshooting [#troubleshooting]

* **`insufficient_quota`:** the key's credit limit or account balance is used up.
* **`tools_unsupported`:** the chosen model or its current provider doesn't support tools; pick another model or pin a provider.
