# Add to cart

> How the assistant adds products to the shopper's real cart on each platform, and the settings that control it.

When a shopper says "add the blue one in 42", the assistant asks the widget to add it to the cart **in the shopper's browser**, using your platform's own cart. The cart is the same one the shopper sees on your site; the mini-cart updates.

## Settings [#settings]

In **Orders & actions → Cart**:

* **Cart actions** on or off.
* **Add automatically** when the shopper asked clearly, or always ask for a click on the product card first.
* **Maximum quantity per line** (1–20).

Each add is reported back to ShopAssist with its result, shown in the chat ("Added 1 × Trail Runner 2 (42) to your cart") and emitted as the `cart.added` [event](/docs/widget/events). Products the platform refuses (out of stock, not purchasable, maximum quantity) are explained to the shopper.
