# Product exclusions

> Hide individual products from the assistant without unpublishing them in your store.

Some products should be sold but never recommended by the assistant, for example gift cards, spare parts or products sold only in store.

## Hide a product [#hide]

In **Catalog → Products**, switch **Hidden from assistant** on for the product. The assistant no longer finds, recommends or compares it. Shoppers who link to it directly can still ask about it on the product page.

The switch is yours: syncs never change it, and it survives product updates. Unpublished, draft and archived products are excluded automatically.

## Exclude by rule [#rules]

To keep the assistant away from whole topics or competitors' brands, use [topics and competitors](/docs/guardrails/topics-and-competitors) instead of hiding products one by one.
